CURRICULUM
Prevention Associates facilitates the Project Towards No Drugs (TND) curriculum developed by the Institute for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research (IPR). The Plus enhances the curriculum by adding small group activities and one on one counseling.
TND+ is funded through the Idaho Office of Drug Policy.
TARGET AUDIENCE
TND+ targets school youth, ages 12 to 19 and has been proven successful when implemented in regular as well as alternative continuation schools, with students from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
OBJECTIVES
- Stop or reduce the use of juuls, vapes, cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana, and hard drugs (opioids, cocaine, hallucinogens, depressants, amphetamines, etc.)
- State accurate information about the consequences of drug use and abuse, including environmental, social, physiological, and emotional consequences.
- Demonstrate behavioral and cognitive coping skills.
- Make a personal commitment regarding drug use.
IMPLEMENTATION
TND+ is twelve classroom-based sessions facilitated by certified teahers and counselors and is paired with support groups, each of which is 30 to 50 minutes in length. In addition, students receive one-on-one counseling sessions. The program was designed for implementation over a six-week period followed by six group activities.
Youth who attend TND+ will build self-confidence and self-awareness. They will be engaged in stimulating discussion and activities that allow them to reflect on who they are as individuals while discovering that through their uniqueness they will find strengths that can be called upon when they find themselves facing difficult choices as they journey towards their personal goals.
